WSK-Vision · The Foundation for

Music, Education & Values.

For 528 years, the Vienna Boys Choir has given the world an unmistakable sound - shaped by tradition, daily choral work, touring the world and encounters with the very best in music. WSK-Vision carries this legacy into the future and out into the world - for the next 500 years.

What We Are Working On

The children's education takes place above all at Campus Augarten in Vienna - in daily rehearsal, learning and living together. And just as much on tour - on the great stages of the world.

WSK-Vision was created to develop precisely this place and this education at Campus Augarten for the generations to come: by expanding the school facilities, modernizing the learning environment and building a reliable financial foundation that makes the Choir less dependent on touring income. At the same time, we want to anchor the Vienna Boys Choir even more firmly around the world: through international supporters and through supporters who sponsor individual tours and concerts in their region.

About the Vienna Boys Choir

A Unique Concept

Today, the Vienna Boys Choir offers a holistic education that goes far beyond singing and strengthens every aspect of each child's personality. At Campus Augarten in Vienna and on tours around the world, three elements come together in one unique concept:

Music

Musical Excellence

Their sound is known around the world. It is the result of discipline, artistic seriousness, precision and a musical performance tradition handed down from generation to generation for five centuries. With seven independent choirs, Campus Augarten offers a musical path from the first years of school through to graduation from upper school.

Education

A Modern School Concept

The choirs are embedded in three schools with music at their center. Academic learning, boarding life, tours, rehearsals and performances are woven into a single educational model - from elementary school through to university entrance qualification.

Values

Values for Life

The children develop more than musical ability. They develop character - shaped by twelve core values such as creativity, discipline, perseverance, teamwork, self-confidence and a sense of responsibility. These are skills that are deliberately formed and that last a lifetime.

Music – Education – Values

Tradition, carried by children – and renewed by them every day.

  1. Music as an Attitude

For us, music is not only an art but also an attitude: it fosters discipline and creativity, connects cultures and strengthens self-confidence. In the choirs, in the classroom, in the boarding school and on tour, the children experience community, responsibility and the joy of growing beyond themselves together and with all their heart - day after day.

  2. Ambassadors

On tour, the children are ambassadors for Austria and its music: some 300 concerts a year, before around half a million people all over the world. These encounters give rise to friendships and partnerships that reach far beyond the concert evening.

  3. Young Professionals

Our children and young people learn that beautiful singing begins with listening. They learn that their own voice matters - and that it matters most when it becomes part of something greater. They develop the courage to stand before an audience, the composure to perform even in great moments, and the humility to start again from the beginning at rehearsal the next morning.

  4. Experiences for a Lifetime

Around a quarter of former choir members go on to work in the creative field. For the other three quarters, music becomes a lifelong foundation. These young people carry discipline, self-confidence, attentive listening, resilience and a sense of responsibility into professions across every part of society - from medicine and science to law, politics and media, to business, film and the stage.

Campus Augarten

A complete musical education.

What audiences experience in concert is the visible side of a much larger private educational institution. Campus Augarten in Vienna accompanies children from early musical education through four touring choirs of the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir to an upper-school choir, and finally to graduation with the International Baccalaureate. The Austrian state funds the academic curriculum; touring income and philanthropy fund what makes this education unique - choir directors, voice teachers, educators, scholarships and attentive personal care.

Founding Story

How WSK-Vision Came to Be

While touring income has long sustained the artistic daily life of the Vienna Boys Choir, WSK-Vision was founded to build a second, lasting pillar of international private support - non-profit, international, carried largely by volunteers, and committed solely to the well-being of the children and the mission of the institution.

“In the end, it was a moving concert in Fulda in 2023 that gave me the decisive impulse to found WSK-Vision: to preserve and strengthen, for generations to come, what shaped me so deeply as a child.”

A Choir Tested - and a Promise

Beginning in 2024, a group of individuals came together, led by WSK alumnus Jörg Mugrauer - a former member of the Vienna Boys Choir (1987-1991). They were united by the conviction that a cultural heritage of extraordinary value should be carried into the future and beyond Austria - for the joy of audiences worldwide and as a contribution to understanding among nations.

Only shortly before, the Vienna Boys Choir had faced a severe test during the COVID-19 pandemic, when touring - the Choir's most important source of income - came to a standstill almost overnight for more than two years. The Choir passed that test. But the experience made clear that an institution with five centuries of history can no longer depend so heavily on touring, but needs additional, internationally anchored pillars.

In consultation with the leadership of the Vienna Boys Choir, WSK-Vision (Wiener SängerKnaben-Vision) was founded with a single, long-term goal: to secure the financial and artistic future of the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir for the next 500 years.

The full quote

“From 1987 to 1991, I was a member of the Vienna Boys Choir. During that time we completed four major tours - two of them across the United States, the others through Europe and the Middle East. What shaped me most was working with the very greatest names in classical music - Pavarotti, Domingo, Carreras, Caballé, Solti, Abbado - and the experience, even as a child, of growing beyond myself together with friends in a choir: that ambition to give the very best on stage. That camaraderie and that drive to excel have stayed with me all my life. Professionally, I later worked extensively with family offices, international institutional investors and foundations. In the end, it was a moving concert in Fulda in 2023 that gave me the decisive impulse to found WSK-Vision: to preserve and strengthen, for generations to come, what shaped me so deeply as a child.”

Our Vision

Four Priorities for the Next Century

Five centuries of music. An extraordinary education. A living tradition carried by successive generations - by the Vienna Boys Choir and, since 2004, the Vienna Girls Choir alike.

01

Scholarships & Access

Talent, not financial means, should decide who may study and sing at Campus Augarten - no matter which country a child comes from. Gifts fund scholarships, international talent scouting, and language and personal support.

02

Musical Excellence and the Viennese Model

World-class performance requires world-class teaching. Resources, financial and otherwise, secure the outstanding quality of our teachers, choir directors, voice coaches and educators, enable intensive individual training, and expand opportunities for the Vienna Girls Choir and for boys after their voices have changed.

Renewal of Campus Augarten

The Augartenpalais at Campus Augarten and the neighboring buildings have been the Choir's home since 1948. Their architectural character is part of the education itself - renewing them is an investment in the spirit the institution seeks to convey, not only in buildings.

A Lasting Foundation

An endowment protects musical and educational quality from the uncertainties of any single year. The current goal is a core endowment that secures scholarships, musical education and the future of the institution for generations to come.

How We Handle Your Gifts

One mission, carried by independent legal entities in each country - each structured to receive gifts responsibly in its own country, and each accountable for how these funds are used.

One Mission - Individual Local Entities

Because supporters from the United States, Germany, Austria and beyond are connected with us, gifts are received through separate, local legal entities - each recognized as a charitable institution able to issue tax-relevant donation receipts under the rules of its own home country. All pursue a single goal: to secure the financial and artistic future of the Vienna Boys Choir and the Vienna Girls Choir for the next 500 years.

How the Funds Are Managed

The funds of WSK-Vision are managed and overseen by experienced investment professionals. An Invitation

Campus Augarten is our home - it is where the children live, learn, rehearse and grow. Because the school of the Vienna Boys Choir is private, the campus is not open to the public. What we will show you this May is something most of our guests have never experienced: rehearsals otherwise closed to anyone outside the institution, and singing up close, in rooms never before used for this purpose.

On Saturday evening, we open the doors of Palais Augarten for a gala dinner. On Sunday morning, you take your seat at the Mother's Day Concert in the Wiener Musikverein - having spent the days before in the world that makes this performance possible in the first place.

Which path suits you best is something we would like to discuss with you in a personal conversation.

Participation is limited and by personal invitation. The process begins with your expression of interest, not with a booking. After your inquiry, a representative of WSK-Vision will contact you personally to discuss which format suits you best.

Questions & Answers

Let's Talk

Every supporter has a personal point of contact on our team, by region.

Find your contact
01What is the difference between an endowment gift and a donation?

An endowment gift increases the Foundation's permanent capital; the capital itself is never spent, only its returns. A donation is used directly and has immediate impact.

02Are gifts tax-deductible?

In many cases, yes – for example through our US company “American Friends of the Vienna Boys Choir”. Depending on where you are based, there are other options as well.

03How high are the administrative costs?

We operate leanly and largely on a volunteer basis, so your gift to WSK-Vision benefits the choirs directly, without high administrative overhead.

04Can I donate or make an endowment gift anonymously?

Yes. On request, we treat gifts confidentially and do not publish your name. Standard due diligence obligations (KYC, anti-money laundering) remain unaffected.

05What options are there besides a financial gift?

Real estate, bequests and corporate engagement are further ways to get involved beyond a direct donation or endowment gift.

06Can I support a tour or a concert in my region?

Yes. As a tour partner, you sponsor concerts of the Vienna Boys Choir or the Vienna Girls Choir in your region and create encounters with the institution there. Your personal point of contact will be happy to discuss the options with you.

07How is the use of funds monitored?

Regularly - through our Accountability, Audit, Risk & Tax Committee, annually by external auditors and annually to the Kuratorium.

08How will I know where my gift goes?

We keep our supporters informed transparently - through our website, newsletters and, on request, individual updates.
